FC Academy kids from ages 8 to 12 once again this Christmas 2011 went the extra mile to look out for less fortunate children at this wonderful time of year. Similar to 2010 Greenwood FC kids braved the freezing cold on Tuesday 27th December to raise funds for Children Leukemia Association
The day started eventfully with Douglas Hall AFC saving the day and giving the use of their wonderful Astro-turf facilities to us at the 11th hour. A Huge thanks to Brian Foley and all at Douglas Hall AFC for this wonderful gesture. Leeside AFC under 10 team and Ballincollig AFC under 12 team joined Greenwood AFC Academy kids in raising €550 for this wonderful Charity Association. A huge thanks to all involved especially Douglas Hall AFC, City Bounds Bar, Greenwood FC and all the kids who raised this wonderful sum of money.
Following this successful venture The committee of Greenwood FC also decided at Xmas 2011 to make a substantial donation to the local Togher Meals On Wheels. This local service does great work in the local community 52 weeks of the year. Greenwood FC are honoured once again this year to help this outstanding local community service, which is run by local volunteers.

15 Jan - GREENWOOD 5 FERMOY 1
This
morning the lads played Fermoy and recorded a highly impressive 5-1 win. Fermoy who we played earlier in the season were just 1 point behind us going into this mornings game and having scored 3 goals against them on their own pitch, they were all out to do much the same to us on home turf. After about 5 mins we created our 1st chance which came to nothing. As the half progressed we created chance after chance but nothing to show until Aaaron Twohig popped up to score the first of his two goals. The half finished with the score 1-0 to us.
The second half was complete different game. The lads played like they knew they could and were rewarded with a second when after some super running from the excellent Oran Daly. The ball found its way to the feet of Aaron who cleverly chipped the keeper to make it two. Oran on the wing was playing the game of his life and supplied another excellent cross which was finished to the net by the excellent Ethan Varian. After 1 mistake Fermoy scored to make it 3-1. This made the lads go for more goals and we got a fourth from James Lynham. With about 10 mins remaining we got a fifth from Ethan and what a goal to finish the game. Picking the ball up just outside the box and with no pass on he took it past 1 defender and fired a rocket to the back of the net , game over! In what was the performance of the season so far and with so many playing above their usual best the entire squad were the best on the day
8 Jan - AVONDALE 0 GREENWOOD 0
Last Sunday morning we travelled to Bessboro and came away with a scoreless draw. Having played Avondale earlier in the season and defeated them by 3 goals to 1 we knew that they would be out to put that result right on their on pitch. Having started sluggishly after the x-mas holidays we could have found ourselves a goal behind going into half-time only for some keeping from Daragh in goal. The second half was much as the first, not much in the way of scoring opportunities to either side. Another game played and still undefeated as we start back in the new year. KEEP UP THE WORK!!
N.B. Please Note there is a change of venue for this event , it is now in Garryduff,Rochestown

We
travelled to Midleton in very poor and icy conditions with only 11, but very committed players. The game was delayed by 20 mins as Referee Brendan O Regan waited for the pitch to thaw. Midleton got out of the blocks very quickly and dominated the early stages of the game and taking the lead with a well deserved goal. Similar to our 2 previous games it took a goal from the opposition to get us started. We dominated the last 25 minutes of the half with efforts from Timmy Walsh and Aaron Kelleher going wide. With approx 10 minutes of the half left, Aaron again broke clear and headed towards goal only to be upended by the Midleton left back, but our appeals for a penalty went on deaf ears. On the stroke of half time Aaron got his just rewards when he scored a peach of a goal.
The second half started off similar to the first with Midleton having a couple of good attacks but with our back 4 playing out of their skins and a string of good saves from Steven Sherlock kept us in the game. With 15 minutes to go we got a throw ball about 10 yards inside our own half. Brian Kerins threw the ball to Andrew Sweeney who passed first time to Kieran Hinds who then passed first time to Brian. Brian then took a touch, looked up and put a great ball onto the running Timmy Walsh who ran 30 yards before passing the ball into the bottom right corner. We could have had another 1 or 2 before the ref blew up for full time. A great performance by all with just rewards.
